Damp Solutions that Work
As construction methods improve, buildings are becoming increasingly airtight. This is great for staying warm in the cold winter months but makes condensation more common as buildings are less breathable.
Walls need to breathe, and water needs to move. Our damp solutions actively treat water ingress by redirecting the movement of moisture from the walls to the outside environment.
Whatever the cause of the problem – rising damp, condensation or penetrating damp, SmartDry has the product to alleviate the problem.
and penetrating damp
Totally natural solution
- SmartDry DryBricks are an innovative and patented damp treatment solution, which unlike other products on the market, actively remove damp from walls in an entirely natural way.
- DryBricks are installed into exterior walls and use basic physics to remove damp for good and improve the interior climate of your home.
- Every DryBrick is capable of removing 266cc water per 24 hours without the need for any external energy. This makes them the most sustainable and efficient damp treatment available, and because they last a lifetime, the most cost-effective solution too.
- Unlike other damp treatment solutions, SmartDry DryBricks do not employ any harmful chemicals.
It runs on air
Air is the active component in the SmartDry DryBrick. Once the patented DryBricks are in place, the wind that circulates your home causes natural airflow through their elements. This airflow cools the chambers inside and since damp is always attracted to colder places, it collects and condenses inside the air chambers. As a result, damp is drawn from the surrounding wall or cavity and transferred to the cavity within the element. The same airflow causes a cooling effect and transports the condensed moisture to the outside.
By exploiting the natural principles of ventilation and evaporation, it’s possible to dry out even the most saturated walls.
Whether you have rising or penetrating damp, SmartDry DryBricks are guaranteed to remove your damp problem.
- ✓ Draws damp out from the walls and expels it to the outside
- ✓ Exploits the natural flow of air around the wall, so doesn’t require an energy source
- ✓ Improves the insulating capabilities of your walls
- ✓ Significantly dries walls in around 6 months, guaranteed to be fully dried within 16 months, keeps them dry for life
- ✓ Actively removes damp (266cc of water every 24 hours)
- ✓ Does not require any maintenance
- ✓ Guaranteed for life, so durable you’ll never need to claim
Air is the active component. The slightest breeze around the house causes air to pass through each of the elements. Each one has a wing, which protrudes to the exterior capturing airflow and guiding it to the chamber inside.
This airflow causes a slight drop in pressure inside the chamber, which cools the shell (Verturi Effect). A small temperature difference creates a dew point, activating the condensation process inside the unit.
The damp, which is present in the property’s walls, now starts to condense in the chamber (or in the case of cavity walls, the porous shell) where the DryBricks have been installed. As a result, the damp is diffused within the chamber or shell. The damper the shell or chamber becomes, the more the system will extract moisture from the walls. It’s a self-regulating process.
The same low pressure that initially caused the temperature to drop inside the chamber of the unit is still present. This encourages the evaporation of water vapor in the air. Humid air is continuously transported to the chamber where the moisture evaporates.
When the damp evaporates into the air, it is directly transported outside. Each installed element is capable of expelling 266 ccs of water per 24 hours. As long as the elements are present, and there is a slight breeze, damp will be drawn out of the walls.
How are DryBricks installed?
DryBricks are installed from the outside into the exterior walls. That means there is no need to do any work on the inside of the property, and you won’t need to replaster the interior walls.
How long does installation take?
Most installations are 1 to 2 days. As soon as the installation is complete, we provide a full clean up and the damp removal system will start to work.
When will I start to notice a difference?
Some may notice within a month or two, most will see a significant difference between 3 to 6 months. The walls will get drier and the interior climate will feel more comfortable and warmer.

The elements can also be painted to ensure they are as discreet as possible. We will bring samples along to check the colour against your wall and can advise on the right one. You’re free to make the final choice, without any surcharges. We can also align our work with other contractors or architects that you may be working with.
The installed DryBricks take into account the symmetry of the property to create the very best appearance aesthetically. Our clients are able to choose the colours of the DryBricks installed, some choose to match the DryBricks colour to that of the colour of the wall whilst others select a contrasting colour.
The elements come in six standard colours:

SmartDry DryBrick Damp Treatment Test A
For this test two brick walls were set up in a large industrial hall with a relative humidity of 43%, which is represented in the diagram with a dotted line. Wall B has the DryBricks installed and Wall A does not. Both walls were completely saturated with water from a basin in preparation for the test. The relative humidity of the air is measured right next to the wall during a period of 8 weeks. The red colour represents the wall with the DryBricks installed in it.
At day 0 both relative humidity (RH) values are approximately the same, but after only two weeks the difference between the two walls is clearly distinguishable.
After 8 weeks, the RH for the DryBrick damp treatment (Wall B) has dropped by 44.6%, whereas the RH of Wall A has only dropped by 13.4%.
The wall with the SmartDry damp treatment performs 3.3 times better than the one without. Wall B (with the DryBrick damp treatment) has expelled a volume equivalent to 2.5 bathtubs more than the wall without.
SmartDry DryBrick Damp Treatment Test B
Again two walls (wall A without damp treatment and wall B with one SmartDry DryBrick Element), but this time the walls were placed with their bases immersed in basins of unlimited water during the whole test period, simulating the conditions of rising damp. The water inside both the basins is monitored and maintained at a steady level by the extra water supply. The amount of water required to keep the main basins at the same level is equal to the amount of water expelled by the walls and is visualised in this graph:
Both walls expel damp to the surrounding area through the process of evaporation, i.e. if you leave a glass of water on a kitchen counter it will dry up eventually.
The difference between the two walls however, is remarkable straight from the beginning. The lines fluctuate mildly because of slight inconsistencies in the surrounding climates, which will always occur and be more prominent in real life situations. The dotted line represents the difference between the two: in this situation each element expels more than 3 pints of water per week!
