What is penetrating damp and how do you solve it?

Penetrating damp is caused by broken facades and porous outer walls. It can also be caused by negligence or errors during the construction of the house or during a renovation. Penetrating damp happens when water slowly spreads from the outside to the inside walls of the house. This problem can be identified by mould and damp spots on the walls and plaster or wallpaper that comes loose. In most cases though, penetrating damp is recognised by damp spots seen both on the inside and outside wall; the spots on the inner and outer wall are about the same height. If this type of damp problem has been persisting for a while, mould will also form in the house. The effects of penetrating damp can be harmful to your health and it is therefore important to solve it quickly. How can you recognise penetrating damp in the house?

Recognising penetrating damp is not always an easy task. This is mainly because this damp problem can occur in places in the house that are difficult to reach.
